Subject: RE: 2012 object packages
Hello all on TMS Listserv:
I've been following the string of queries about packages in TMS 2012 and ha=
ve some documentation to share with you:
1. A tutorial on using the new Package Explorer tool in TMS 2012.
2. A pdf copy of Chapter 7 [on packages] generated from the F1 Help File=
.
I hope you find these useful. I wrote them so if after reading them you sti=
ll have questions, you can write to me directly at [log in to unmask]
m<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.
I also want to make sure everyone has the TMS 2012 Help File. Please hit F1=
on your keyboard from anywhere in TMS 2012, and check to see whether the t=
op banner says TMS 2010 or TMS 2012. Simple test. If yours says TMS 2010, p=
lease let us know; we can swap out the old with the new. Support@gallerysys=
tems.com<mailto:[log in to unmask]> can help you do this. While you=
're at it, you can also request that support gives you the 'new' set of TMS=
2012 tutorials.
Hope this helps!
Annie

Hi Jessica,
Would you be willing to share your in-house manual for object packages? We=
just upgraded and I've started writing a user guide for packages, but if s=
omeone else has one that I could use for a reference it would be incredibly=
helpful. The new packages are so much more robust that I am afraid I am g=
oing to miss some important detail and everyone will have a mental breakdow=
n when their object packages don't do what they want!
Thanks,
Amber

Subject: Re: 2012 object packages
Prior to the TMS2012 upgrade, we had a system of naming global packages wit=
h department abbreviations as prefixes. Now, we are using the new function=
ality to move those packages into departmentally named global folders inste=
ad. By the way, TMS 2012 uses "public" for "global"--potentially confusing=
, but you can change it.
After the upgrade, your global packages become shortcuts in the main global=
/public folder and the list is frustratingly long if you have a lot of user=
s. Breaking up the global packages into department folders started us on t=
he road to reorganization. We also use shared folders (accessible only to =
designated users) for specific projects to cut down on the always growing g=
lobal list.
There is a glitch in the searching across modules though. If you plan on u=
sing a shared or global package that is not living in your personal folder =
(with a shortcut pasted into public/global/shared folder) then it will not =
be searchable from other modules.
If that sounded ridiculously confusing, feel free to email me off list. We=
've already produced an in-house manual for PMA users. They were almost un=
iversally confused post-upgrade.
I think there's more potential in the shared packages, but this is as far a=
s we've gotten.

Hello TMSers,
I'm looking for thoughts on organizing the package folders in TMS 2012. Our=
package list became a bit messy over the years and I would like to tidy it=
up now that that we can structure a bit more with the folders. Anyone have=
examples they are willing to share on how they manage packages?
Thanks!
