I also think that it is better to replace shattered weighted silk
linings of dresses that are regularly exhibited. The enormous amount of
treatment and handling that is required is disproportional to the
result over time: pockets of silk fragments. The original lining would
probably last longer if removed and stored appropriately so that it is
no longer disturbed with the dressing and undressing of mannequins.
Also, the original lining is then more accessible for the
investigation, research and tests which we hope will one day lead to
solutions to this problem.
