We use the default rendition numbers for digital media. But for physical media we use our image numbers. This makes it easy to search for a specific image in the Media module in order to locate its associated object record.

Subject: Use of Media Rendition #

Hi All,

For rendition numbers, we’ve been using the default auto-generated format:  R.current year-next sequential number, e.g., R.2010-1, R.2010-2, etc..

Does anyone use a different numbering convention?  I admit, perhaps revealing great ignorance, that I’ve never needed to run a query based on rendition #.  I’m wondering how rendition #s can be particularly useful & whether modifying the default numbering format is worth considering.
