New Harm listers and Robbie:

Most states, particularly in the south, west, and northeast, have
oldtime fiddle contests (some have run continuously for decades). These
festivals are usually multiday events that draw players from all over
the country. Cash prizes are awarded in a host of categories, but most
people come just to hang out with fellow enthusiasts and play tunes.
Electric instruments are viewed as the work of the devil amd strictly
verbotten. Lots of pros get their start at these contests as well
(Alison Krauss was a fiddle contest vet). Tennessee has several.
There's a good contest in Smithville
<http://www.smithvilletn.com/jamboree/index.htm and they should have
some promo material.

For New Harmonies sites, this link http://www.nashvilleoldtime.org/
is one of many listings of contests and oldtime music events throughout
the country, though there's a heavy concentration in the south. Click
on <Festivals/Contests> on the left of the page for the listings.

Everyone,

For next MoMS exhibition, New Harmonies, we are planning to feature a
section on the importance of music festivals in the development of the
1950s
and 1960s revival of folk music. Our designer would like to create a
"wallpaper" effect featuring posters from folk/roots music festivals.
We
would be very interested in obtaining posters from traditional music
festivals in your states for use in the exhibition. If you know of a
great
local roots music festival that produces posters or flyers, please let
me
know.

Thanks!
Robbie
