Art Collection Cataloger/Project Manager

Position pending grant funding expected 7/01/2010

The Cataloger/Project Manager will report directly to the Head of Research Resources.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide direction and oversight for the implementation of an enhanced cataloging system for the Albright-Knox Art Gallery's art collection.  Manage two-year grant project with oversight of Associate Cataloger and any interns hired to assist with the project.

Project Manager (during the two-year grant project):
	·	Ensure compliance with protocols and standards for data entry tin to MIMSY XG
	·	Provide instruction and assistance in the use of MIMSY XG to museum staff
	·	Update policies and procedures for data structure, content and value standards as needed
	·	Maintain contact with other industry professionals to remain informed of standards and best practices for museum description and technological developments
	·	Provide quality assurance through review of regular audit reports
	·	Act as liaison to outside organizations regarding projects that utilize collections information in shared databases, such as OCLC's Museum Data Exchange Project
Cataloger (at the conclusion of the grant)
	·	Catalog all new acquisitions
	·	Create and update art object and people records
	·	Create and update authority records and controlled vocabularies
	·	Provide ongoing user-education in the use of MIMSY XG
	·	Collaborate with other Albright-Knox collections catalogers to provide integrated access to all museum collections (archives, art, digital media, library)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
¨	Excellent writing skills 
¨	Strong organizational skills
¨	Ability to work independently with attention to detail

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
¨	ALA-accredited MLIS degree with specialization in cataloging or archival studies strongly preferred 
¨	Knowledge of, or experience with museum, archives or special collections cataloging according to national and international standards (e.g., CCO, AACR2R, MARC, AAT subject headings, and LCSH)
¨	Academic background in contemporary art history or related field, advanced degree preferred
¨	Reading knowledge of a language, other than English, preferred
¨	Supervisory or grant management experience preferred
¨	Familiarity with MIMSY XG or other computerized collections management system and fundamental understanding of principles of database structures strongly preferred.



Temporary Art Collection Associate Cataloger (two year position)

The Associate Cataloger will report directly to the Cataloger/Project Manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
With emphasis on painting and sculpture collections, catalog art objects in the Albright-Knox Art Gallery's collections management system MIMSY XG.

¨	Enhance descriptive information about art objects by creating and/or editing cataloging records to comply with recognized, museum community wide standards and best practices including Cataloging Cultural Objects (CCO) and Getty vocabularies (AAT, ULAN, TGN)
¨	Contribute to cataloging of art objects to assure timely completion of project goals
¨	Ensure compliance with protocols and standards for data entry into MIMSY XG
¨	Keep informed of standards and best practices for museum description and technological developments in the profession
¨	Provide quality assurance through review of regular audit reports
