Glasgow School of Art Project Textile Conservator
The Scottish Conservation Studio LLP, South Queensferry, near Edinburgh,
Scotland
3 years fixed term appointment
Salary: Up to £22 500 pa, depending on experience

Closing date for submission of completed application forms: Friday 6 April
2007
Interviews are expected to take place the week starting 23 April 2007.

The Scottish Conservation Studio is a multidisciplinary partnership run by
three experienced accredited conservators in the fields of artefacts, paper
& photographs and textiles & costume. The studio is located in beautiful
surroundings in a recently converted carriage house of the 17th century
stately home, Hopetoun House. The studio serves national, local authority,
military and independent museums, archives, art galleries and historic
houses, a range of other heritage organisations and private individuals.

Following the Heritage Lottery Fund's recent award to the Glasgow School of
Art for its Mackintosh Conservation and Access Project the Studio is looking
for a textile conservator to join the team in order to deliver a large
time-limited project to conserve and re-house the School's entire textile
research and study collection. The collection totals approximately 400
fascinating textiles with an age-range from the 17th century to the 1950's.
These Scottish, European and Asian textiles include ecclesiastical,
decorative and domestic items and garments.

In this responsible position you will be able to practise a wide range of
remedial treatments and possibly to mount some of the textiles for display.
You will have an opportunity to work as one of the key players in bringing
the care of the superb collection to the level of best practice.

You will be a highly self-motivated conservator with a recognised textile
conservation qualification and preferably some relevant work experience.
You will be expected to deliver short-term targets through an established
work programme. You will be able to work efficiently independently as well
as part of a team. You will have excellent organisational and
problem-solving skills, and you are proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

You will need a car of your own, with a full, current driving licence.

You are welcome to contact the studio for an informal discussion about this
post at + 44 (0) 131 3315875. To request an application form please e-mail
[log in to unmask] or phone.
