As a test I tried this on some records and find that the Catalogue Number field in RefObjXRefs won't sort properly either. For those of you who use this field, do you have this problem?

At the Smithsonian American Art Museum, we also use Bibliography to record published sources where objects are cited and the RefObjXRefs to cite catalogue numbers, etc.
Another possibility: use alternate numbers in the Objects Module.

One thought off the top of my head re Cat Rais - an extra bit of data entry, but perhaps worthwhile for your collection, I might try Bibliography module records for the catalogues and RefObjXRefs.CatalogueNumber for the citation numbers. In theory, this would make reporting cleaner. Perhaps also using Heading or Format to flag the cat.rais. records in bibliography.

Hello TMSers,
Here at the Baltimore Museum of Art, we're about to embark on a back cataloging effort. We have approximately 30,000 catalog cards from our print collection that have not been entered into TMS. I was thinking of having a local data entry company enter the cards into a flat file, and then have Gallery Systems map that flat file to our live TMS database. Has anyone out there done a similar project?
In addition, I was wondering if museums with large print collections have a problem sorting by the catalogue raisonné number. The only way to get Crystal to sort by the catalogue raisonné number is to key all the numbers in the Change Group Options - Specified Order screen. Has anybody figured out a better way to sort by the catalogue raisonné? I asked Gallery if they had any plans to create a catalogue raisonné sort field, but I have not heard back from them. It would probably be easier if this field were split - one field for the author, and one field for the citation number. However, in TMS, the catalogue raisonné field is one text field, which does cause problems.
