Hi All,
We do what Frances is suggesting.
The free text of the geography section goes into labels and the ‘pretty’ part of reports. That is where we have probably/possibly and varying levels of details based on what curatorial wants for that object.
We link countries in the geography xrefs. That provides our structure for reports and searching. That link provides a controlled vocabulary structure to our public website for filtering. It also allows for structured reporting on countries.
Geography xrefs can be added in bulk, so it’s not too time consuming to populate a lot of records.

Thanks
Julie

Are any of you in the discussion using the GeographyXref fields to link to the TGN as well as the individual Geography fields? This could be an option where a more specific location for searching is recorded in GeoXrefs and the version for printing on labels, etc., goes into the uncontrolled Geography fields.

Frances
