Title: Museum Database Administrator
Supervisor: Collections Manager
Department: Collections Management

The New-York Historical Society seeks an experienced candidate to fill
the position of Museum Database Administrator: salaried, exempt, full
time (35 hours/week).

This position is charged with the continuous maintenance and improvement
of the Society's Museum collections database and its data, and
troubleshooting database-related end-user problems. The administrator
works within the Collection Management team developing and maintaining
output reports, monitoring webpage interfaces, and training new database
users. 

Responsibilities include the management of TMS (The Museum System) and
Crystal Reports, while providing for proper and consistent data entry as
per approved museum standards; assistance with the Collections
Department in establishing guidelines for how and where data is entered
into the database; development of ongoing training workshops for all
staff to ensure effective use of the database as a tool for research;
development and implementation of a strategy for data clean-up.  

The Database Administrator will maintain a working knowledge of systems
and software, and inform staff of upgrades as appropriate; coordinates
with the museum's Information Technology department for maintenance of
back-up systems; maintains and updates TMS user manuals; and creates new
working reports as required by all departments.

Additional responsibilities include database image processing,
occasional technological advisement to management, and liaison with IT
department on general technical issues relating to the Museum Division. 

Special projects may be requested, such as the assistance with senior
staff Powerpoint presentations, etc.

The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of computer hardware
and software, and of databases broadly construed. MS SQL Server, and MS
Access experience required. The Museum System (TMS), Photoshop, and
Crystal Reports experience preferred. IIS/ASP experience a plus. Must
possess excellent communication skills, be committed to working in a
team environment and have a BA in Art History/American History and/or
Museum Studies (MCDBA certification preferred).  Salary: $36,000
(negotiable) with generous benefits package including vacation, medical,
