Hi Jennifer:
We finished our Barn Again! tour a few weeks ago. We were able to
raising approximately $60k to fund our BA! tour. This was mostly from
one local foundation with a few private donors thrown in. I think that
our ability to fund raise within our state was not owing to BA! but to
our developing a very popular statewide program that accompanied BA! We
undertook a statewide survey of rural architecture. I worked with an
advanced photo class at the University of Nevada, Reno, the state
historic preservation office, etc. Although not a scientific or
comprehensive study it was quite well done and toured that state with BA!

As a result we created an exhibit of approximately 30 framed pieces
(each included 4 images, captions and text), an archive of about 500
images which are now in Special Collections at the University Library,
and an exhibit catalogue. The exhibit/book was entitled Sagebrush
Vernacular, contained all 120 photos and a series of essays.
To check out the exhibit online:

Our grant covered not only the expenses associated with our local
project but all other BA! related expenses, such as exhibit rental and
grants to communities, etc.

I mention all of this because we believe that fundraising for Museum on
Main Street in our state is contingent on finding a local hook to get
instate funders excited. We have recently signed up for Between Fences.
We are beginning our plans for another instate component which we hope
will appeal to funders.

Warm wishes for the holidays,
Steve Davis
