Historic House Museums Issues and Operations
Date: March 25-26, 2010
Location: Atlanta History Center, Atlanta, GA
Cost: $250 members/$315 nonmember
EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT DEADLINE EXTENDED - $20 discount if registration received by March 5

Why are historic houses necessary to their communities? How are historic house museums unique? During lively group discussions and activities, participants will explore management, collection, and interpretation issues to answer these questions. Participants will become familiar with the types of research that are appropriate for historic house museums and learn how to translate that research into interpretive themes, storylines, and plans. Other topics include marketing, volunteers, earned income, membership programs, and care of buildings and landscapes.

Digitizing Historic Collections
Date: April 14-15, 2010
Location: Senator John Heinz History Center, Pittsburgh, PA
Cost: $250 members/$315 nonmember
$20 discount if registration received by March 14

The purpose of this workshop is to introduce archivists, curators, librarians, and other staff to the range of issues associated with digitization primary source materials. This workshop provides an overview of key issues such as selection of materials, physical preservation, considerations for digital imaging, metadata, and the resources required for responsible sustainability of digital collections. You'll explore new technologies in museums with in-depth training on digitizing your collection.

Collections Management and Practices
Date: June 24-25, 2010
Location: Connecticut Humanities Council, Hartford, CT
Cost: $250 members/$315 nonmembers

Learn about your institution's responsibility toward its collections, the necessary policies and procedures, and best practices. You'll become familiar with current issues and trends while you explore other topics including the role of collections in exhibition and interpretation, the basic steps of collections management from acquisition to disposal, professional standards and ethics, conservation on a shoe-string budget, as well as learning about the multitude of resources available for collections preservation.
