I am working on a USMC coatee c. 1840. Half of the red leather (split-hide) INNER waistband/belt is missing. This missing section is not visible from the outside (i.e., while on display), but it is needed to close the coat at the waist when dressing the form.

Has anyone any prior experience with a similar uniform/garment? Did you use leather or a substitute material to recreate the missing section of the waistband? If leather, do you have a source to recommend?

Thanks for your feedback.
