Assistant Curator, Eastern Hemisphere Collections
The Textile Museum 

The Textile Museum, Washington, DC, invites applications for the position of Assistant Curator of Eastern Hemisphere Collections. The Assistant Curator of Eastern Hemisphere Collections supports curatorial objectives that advance critical inquiry and study of the collections, and disseminates knowledge of the textile arts through exhibitions, publications and public programs. The Assistant Curator strengthens the Museum's holdings of Asian and African textiles through collections development and documentation. 

The Assistant Curator reports to the Associate Curator of Eastern Hemisphere. Primary responsibilities include: 

Provide leadership in preparation of exhibitions for the Collections Gallery of the Museum's Textile Learning Center, 
Develop exhibitions drawn from The Textile Museum's collections and loans, 
Provide leadership and/or serve as a team member for exhibition development, public programs, collections development and documentation, 
Coordinate Eastern Hemisphere-related loan exhibitions for installation at The Textile Museum, 
Undertake collections research for exhibitions, publications and public programming, and in response to public and professional inquiries, 
Assist in supervision of Eastern Hemisphere curatorial staff, interns and volunteers, and 
Support institutional planning and fundraising efforts. 
Qualified candidates should be highly motivated, cooperative, flexible and willing to strive for excellence in a dynamic museum environment. Must have effective oral and written communication skills; have familiarity with textile structures, technologies and history; and be comfortable with computer applications for research and writing. M.A. degree in related field and training in ARGUS collections software preferred. For more information see http://www.textilemuseum.org/jobs.htm.
