Meg: I like to use the ASTM chart found in D-276-00a "Identification of Fibers in Textiles" at http://www.astm.org/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/index.shtml?E+mystore The different nylons and polyesters are identified both longitudinally and width wise--and the birefringence is calculated to three places. The Standard is found in vol 07.01 if you are near a university library. Mary

Hi there, TexCon colleagues – I am going crazy trying to put my hands on the
reference material that lists the refractive indices for a variety of
synthetic fibres – I know it’s around here somewhere. Anyone can direct me
to the information? I am specifically looking for nylon, polyester and
acrylic. Thanks!

Regards,

Meg Geiss-Mooney
