Hi Scott,
We are planning to someday use the CIMI Dublin Core and XML standards, which
are not currently built into TMS. What we've done is create a local Dublin
Core authority in the Attributes section of our database for the DC "Type"
element, and have mapped other TMS fields to the appropriate Dublin Core
attribute. The idea is to then output the DC mapped fields for each given
record to Crystal Reports, convert/save as XML, and make updates to field
tags where necessary. Not tested this yet, and I'm still very much a novice
in XML, but I think it will work.
Since we're still working on content and data verification in our records, I
don't expect this will happen for a while, but it's in our plans.
It'd be nice to have some feedback from someone who's actually tried this.
Allison

Subject: metadata standards

Hi everyone,

I am trying to describe to a funder for a grant we are applying to how
digital image content for the collection will be discovered through metadata
in TMS. Are there particular metadata standards that are built into TMS
(i.e. MARC or Dublin Core)? Now, looking at the TMS "About" page it looks
like the Art & Architecture Thesaurus, Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names
and Authority Record Format are already part of the database structure. We
are using TMS 9.1. Are any of you using another metadata format with TMS?

This is kind of new territory for me, so any light that any of you can shed
on this will be helpful.

Thanks,

Scott Nacke
