We also use the Events module to track our visits-academic classes as well as independent researchers. Class instructors and researchers are added as related Constituents. The class title/number is also recorded as an Attribute.

Hi Marty,
I agree with what Sarah said. And for the most part, any image is better than no image. I usually separate images into 2 categories in a DAM system to differentiate between High Res Collection Photography and reference image (snapshots) taken by the registrars for exactly the same reason as Sarah states. Adding a disclaimer "Not for Reproduction / Reference Image Only" to the reference images on a website (or in TMS or in a DAMS) is the best way to allow the public to differentiate between the two sets of images. It also helps staff who are searching for images know that the images available are not publication quality before they ask to use them.

Best,
HQ

Hello,

We currently use the event module to record classes working with museum objects and would like to add academic department information.

If your museum records academic departments, how do you record it?
Does it have its own constituent entry? Is it an element of a faculty member? Other?

Thank you!
Best,
Katharine

I would also love to hear more about how academic museums are utilizing the Events Module to track class visits and what information is recorded, as we are starting to do so this academic year. Any tips or tricks?

Hi Jeff,

Are you still looking for someone for this? A friend of mine has expressed interest. If you are, I’ll put her in touch with you for more info.

Thanks!

Dear TMS Community,

The Freer|Sackler is currently looking for a qualified candidate to help complete the media component for an online scholarly catalogue.

The Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery (Freer|Sackler) has produced an online scholarly publication of a significant collection of Edo period Japanese books, entitled “The World of Japanese Illustrated Books” (http://pulverer.si.edu<http://pulverer.si.edu/>). Currently only 6% of the 938 titles are online, and the museum is working diligently to catalogue and add the rest of the collection to the catalogue. Each book has been photographed cover-to-cover, so over 67,000 images are available to make each book entirely accessible.

A key task in the final phase of this project is the preparation each book’s image to be ingested into the Smithsonian’s Digitial Asset Management System (DAMS) as a high-resolution TIF and be synchronized with the museums collections management system The Museum System (TMS).

The Freer|Sackler is currently looking for a full-time contactor to process the remaining 746 books and their related 55,409 images and update their related TMS media records so that all images are available by May 2016. The work requires attention to detail, accuracy and consistency.

Please see the attached statement of work. For further inquiries please contact:

I’ve received a number of resumes already, but sure, please put her in touch. The outline of the project and duties are attached. Thanks!

Please forward these instructions:
The work for the project will be focused almost entirely on the preparation for and ingesting of image assets into the Smithsonian DAMS and linking in TMS.
Payment will be per book, so please submit a bid based on the numbers and timeframe outlined in the job announcement. We have two excellent Japanese scholars cataloguing the books, plus other contributors who need to see them online, so the push is to get all the images on the website.
All that is required is an email from you stating your interest in working as a contractor on the project, and a bid on the fee per book which you require, within the time-frame specified. Keep in mind that some books have more pages that others.
