A JOB OPPORTUNITY AT THE *BROOKLYN MUSEUM OF ART * 200 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn, NY 11238 UNION-COVERED POSITION December 2003 POSITION: Assistant Registrar for Domestic Loans DEPARTMENT: Registrar REQUIREMENTS: Three years related experience in museum registration. Superior organizational, communication and computer skills. Strong experience in condition reporting artwork of various media. Knowledge of fine arts handling, packing, and shipping standards. Basic knowledge of fine arts insurance and facility requirements. Fluency with Microsoft Office-- Word, Excel, and Access. Previous experience with The Museum System (TMS) collections management database a plus. B.A. with art history or studio emphasis preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to safely handle a variety of works of art. Long periods of standing, bending and sitting, and lifting often required. Manual dexterity and use of hand tools required. Excellent eye sight important. RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate and manage high-volume domestic loan program following established Museum loan procedures. Correspond directly with prospective borrowers and venues. Work with curators and conservators to process loan for administration and Board approval. Generate loan conditions, agreements, insurance certificates, receipts, invoices and shipping documentation from the collections management database. Arrange for fine arts packing, shipping, and courier travel. Condition check all outgoing and returning permanent collection domestic loans. Coordinate loan schedule and logistics with ten curatorial departments, collections management department, and conservation department. Maintain loan history files and archive loan files. Undertake annual inventory of long-term loans. Produce annual report with domestic loan statistics. Possible courier travel. Share general office duties as directed by Chief Registrar.
