We are looking at the issue of entering exhibitions into TMS
in which a multiple of our object was included.
Typically thus far we have not entered exhibitions for multiples –
we have stuck to the policy of only entering exhibitions in which our object
was shown. The reason
being that if we start entering exhibitions of multiples, the data could
snowball and would be difficult to ever fully and confidently achieve.
However, the question has arisen in the course of cataloging
video/media works. We have a video piece
that is 1 of 2 and another that is 6 of 10.
Is there a reason to change course and enter exhibitions in which one of
the multiples was shown? Does it make a
difference if one of the other multiples has a significant/prominent exhibition
history, but the exact copy that our museum accessioned does not have any exhibition
history at all?
Any insight into this topic would be much appreciated,
especially as it relates to video/media works –
