The Coordinator of Museum Operations serves as the Museum Registrar and is located in the Harn Museum of Art on the University of Florida campus.

 

Job responsibilities include:

 

Intellectual and physical control of permanent international art collection and loan objects, including but not limited to: managing accession paperwork, incoming and outgoing loan paperwork, and storage and shipping arrangements; compiling, researching and maintaining interpretive information on the permanent collection; responding to research inquiries and other requests from institutions and the public; responsible for performing or directing all conservation and preservation activities; manage rights and reproductions to obtain non-exclusive rights for permanent collection.

 

Manage collections management database (The Museum System by Gallery Systems); develop and maintain protocol, policies and procedures for use of collections management database as main record system; develop and maintain consistent data-entry practices, structured vocabulary, and use of the program to manage loans and exhibitions; and supervise data-entry.

 

Perform or direct all routine object processing, including cataloguing, cleaning, photographing, condition reporting, and labeling and storing objects; create and maintain documentary records, routine inspections, and reports.

 

Supervise installation, deinstallation, and maintenance of museum's public exhibition areas; participate in creating long-term exhibition schedule; manage daily registration, exhibition preparation, and installation schedule; participate in design of exhibitions including layout and design of exhibition furniture to ensure appropriate, safe, and secure display conditions.

 

Responsible for overall museum collections management program including review, update, and enhancement of existing Collections Management Plan; and collaborate with curatorial staff on balanced growth of the permanent collection

 

Participate as a member of the senior staff, serving as principal advisor to Director and other senior staff on all aspects of collections management; participate in museum wide planning and policy making; manage departmental budget; and participate in preparation of grant applications.

 

Maintain museum quality storage space designed to provide safe housing, reasonable access, and allow for maximum flexibility; to include long-range plans for future storage needs, maintain inventory of archival supplies needed for initial storage, and continued upgrade of preexisting storage conditions. 

 Salary Range 

 Expected starting salary range is $31,692.00 - $45,000.00. 

 Qualifications 

 Minimum Requirements: Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Major in art or art history; master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization; minimum five years of professional museum work, with progressively responsible museum experience; experience with collections management database, TMS.
