The National Gallery, London has created generic Constituent records in TMS for attribution of paintings to anonymous artists. For example 'German', or 'Italian, Florentine'. We enter the name in Constituent record Display Name, Last Name and AlpaSort fields. We do not enter any dates in the Constituent Display Date field - instead we enter a date or date range in the Object record Display Date field. We have also created a Constituent record called 'Unknown' which we use during any procedure (loans in, loans out etc) where the artist (or lender, or exhibition venue) is NOT YET KNOWN but will be established during the procedure. For instance, creating a PERIOD role and records for Meiji, Edo,Hellenistic, etc? Or a CULTURE role to handle Greek, Attic; Maya; Olmec, etc? I'm leaning heavily in this direction and would like to hear if anyone has experience / opinions one way or the other. thanks Cathryn Goodwin Princeton University Art Museum --------------------------------------------------------------------- Renoir Landscapes 1865 - 1883 21 February - 20 May 2007 - book now http://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/exhibitions/renoirlandscapes/tickets.htm Open daily 10am to 6pm, Wednesdays until 9pm Sign up for the latest news, offers and exclusive competitions from the National Gallery by clicking on this link http://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/what/news/subscribe.htm
