Re: TMS and DAMS We use Extensis Portfolio Server and have built connections to TMS for image publishing  - it works very well, although there are always a few kinks and surprises.  One of the things I like  best about Portfolio is its openness – it runs a standard database on the backend and is relatively straightforward to get data in and out in an automated fashion.  Both Gallery Systems and Extensis can provide database schemas so a good programmer can handle the integration work. There are freelance programmers that build Portfolio to TMS integrations but we were fortunate to have internal talent to do this for us.

A good solution for smaller institutions or departmental  based image collections. It lacks the robustness of a true enterprise DAMS, but certainly cost effective - very reasonably priced.

Jeanne,

MOCA LA followed in the footsteps of MOMA NY and adopted Image Portal as our DAMS.  There were two reasons for going with Image Portal.  The first was cost and the second was the ability to follow the roadmap that MOMA laid out.  It has been up and running for a little over a year now.  The TMS integration was handled by making some slight modifications to a couple of stored procedures that Steven Moore at MOMA developed.  The changes had to be made to reflect the slight differences in table structure between our databases, and also to adjust the fields synchronized between the two systems.

Subject: TMS and DAMS

Hello all,

Once again I’m wondering about media and TMS! At this point in time, we’re looking into acquiring a DAMs, and I was hoping some of you may be able to answer the following questions:

1.
      What DAMs do you use?

2.
      Why did you choose it?

3.
When did you make this decision?

4.
How was the integration with TMS (in other words, how much work did your IT department have to do to get it running)?

5.
If you could go back and change anything, what would you do?

If this is too off topic, please feel free to respond off list. I’ve posted over here because our main concern is having our DAMs work well with the database, and you all have been a wonderful resource thus far. I promise too that one day I’ll stop asking media related questions!

Thank you!!!
-Jeanne
