…
well, we don’t know yet … we need your help. It’s time to
select the next MoMS exhibition!
Last
week, we mailed the five attached proposals and survey form to each humanities
council and to more than 200 host organizations – past, present and
future. We would love to have your input. Ultimately the proposal that is
chosen will be developed by the Smithsonian and begin traveling in 2013.
Please
review the five enclosed exhibition proposals and rank them from one to five,
with one being your favorite and five being your least favorite. You are
welcome to send an individual response. Or, you can discuss the proposals with
your director and colleagues and contribute to a response on behalf of your
council.
As
you do this, please consider how the subject matter will be received by small
museums and rural communities in your state, how collections from small town museums
can be used to complement the exhibition, and what the potential might be for
educational and public humanities programming, fundraising and marketing. We
appreciate and encourage your thoughts and comments. Your responses will
be tallied and factored into the final decision, which will be made by SITES
and the MoMS project team in mid-December.
Like
previous and current MoMS exhibitions, the next exhibition will be designed
specifically for use in small museum settings and in rural communities. The
exhibition will be between 500 and 800 square feet in size, free-standing and
will include objects in cases, interactive components, and possible audio and
video presentations. Supporting materials will include marketing tools,
lesson plans, and training manuals. MoMS exhibitions are designed to be a
spring board for local exhibitions and complementary humanities programming. To
learn more about other MoMS exhibitions, please visit our website, www.museumonmainstreet.org.
Please
submit your responses to Carol Harsh by November 15th by fax at
202-633-5344.
Thanks!

MoMS Team
