Good to know! I’ll give it
a try when we go live with 2010. Many thanks!

Hi Christine,
The location display for
the address is defined in the location authority. It defaults to the
Constituent Name and Address but is completely editable. So instead of
having the address and name of your museum you can just edit it to something
shorter like Main Bldg. So all you have to do is edit the
Address Display Name field in the Location Authority.
Thanks
Best Regards,
Bob

I don’t think so – it is
unfortunate. This should be configureable.

And speaking of external
locations. . .
Is there a way to suppress the
display of the top-most level of a location (either an internal or an external
constituent) in the location field on the object record screen? It’s
annoying to have all my internal locations prefaced by the name and the address
of my museum. I assume I can do this in the Crystal Reports, but is there
a way to do so in the field on the screen?

Our intention is to use a single
location called “External location” and then use the Location Purpose
drop-down to define location (loan on tour, outgoing loan, returned loan), and
then the Sublevel field to record (if needed) the actual lender. This
will save a lot of coordination between the keepers of the location authority
and the move recorders, as well as keep our locations authority simple and
straightforward.

Hello all-
Now that we have the ability to classify locations as internal
and external in TMS 2010, I am interested to know if anyone has developed some
kind of data entry standards for this new feature? Do you add every museum to
which your institution loans objects as an external location? Or have you
created “dummy” constituent records for external locations such as “Out on
loan” or “Returned to owner?”
Feel free to respond off list! I’m just looking for ideas as to
how we should set this up; I know it’s largely dependent on the size of the
institution and how much your objects travel, but any ideas would be
appreciated. Our locations were somewhat messy when we migrated databases three
years ago, so I’d like to ensure that our standards from this point on are
consistent and manageable.
Thank you!
Jeanne
