I use Select Random Entry because, as a system administrator, it
exposes me to many different kinds of records in the system and I check them
for errors, misspellings, and inconsistencies in field usage, and so on. Often,
one record can be the “tip of the iceberg” and lead to many other similar
errors.

Subject: SV: Is the Object Query Screen modifiable?
Hi Diane, thank you! Yes, I’ve checked and this is possible in 2010
also, so I will ask around here at the museum and see what people prefer in
this field.
Still I think it would be nice to be able to add more fields, and
customise those to one’s institution’s needs, or customise several of the
existing fields. E.g. we don’t have much use for the choice “Select Random
Entry” J Do any of you
use it?
What I really would like to be able to do, is to have a type of udf
for the initial module query pages, and thus be able to customise this page for
each of the departments using TMS or even for specific users. Have this been
discussed before on this list? Which also leads me to another question: Is
there an online archive for this listserv where one could search?
Thanks again, and best, Hilde

Hi
Hilde –
In
9.35 you can change the last field at the bottom left of the Query screen where
there is a free text entry box. (We use Object Number in ours.) But
it would have to be a field that you could free text search – it won’t handle a
drill down type of search like you might want to do for location – there is no
“…” box. I just tried it in ours, and I got results when searching
for one particular room, but entering exact locations did not work well.
If
you want to try any of it, it is configurable in dbconfig under Manage >
Modules, and you will see the pull down where you can change under Quick Find
Column.
Again,
this is 9.35, and it is probably different on 2010, but that might give you a
hint anyway.
Diane.

Hello Hilde,
I don’t believe you can change the Object module query screen,
but I suggest contacting Gallery Systems to discuss your needs.
Possibly TMS 2010 allows these changes and I’m just not aware of
them.
Best regards, David

Subject: SV: Is the Object Query Screen modifiable?
Thank you, David. I think I might’ve put this a little wrong. I’ve already
added fields to the Query Assistant so i know that that is possible, and it’s
good that one can tailor the assistant to suit ones needs. But now my
users would like to know whether we can modify the left part of the Object
Query Screen itself by adding, removing or substituting fields there. Say e.g. leaving
out the random post choice and adding Current Location instead. Is that
possible, or are the searching fields in the Object Query Screen itself hard
coded?
Thanks again!
Best, Hilde

Yes, you can add fields to the Query Assistant or the advanced
query groups.
You do that in the TMS dbconfig and you need to be the TMS
sys.admin.
You just drag and drop the appropriate fields from the DB
structure to the Query Assistant or the advance query folders in any module.
If the TMS manual doesn’t have instructions, email [log in to unmask] for
help.
Good luck with your new TMS installation.

Subject: Is the Object Query Screen modifiable?
Hi
everyone, I’m new to this list and fairly new to TMS as well. I work as
database administrator at the Munch Museum in Oslo, and we have launched our
live TMS this summer after a long and quite painful conversion into TMS from
our many FileMaker files. Hopefully I can get answers to my questions from some
of you J
My
first question is, is the Object Query Screen modifiable? My users would’ve
liked to have the fields they search often, e.g. Current Location, placed
directly in the Object Query Screen. Is it possible to modify the screen?
Thanks
in advance, and kind regards from Hilde Bøe
