Kansas partners with the Kauffman Museum in North Newton, KS for shipping.  They are a wonderful museum with a strong outreach ethic.   For a reasonable fee, a museum staff person assists the local host site in loading the crates onto the truck and then drives the exhibition to the next location.  There, David leads a team of local folks in the exhibit installation.  The host sites are in charge of taking down the installation.

David is highly professional and creative and makes everything work in every location.  He is also extremely personable and puts everyone at ease during this period of high excitement.  Plus, when it comes to shipping, KHC now has absolutely zero worries.  The Kauffman is a wonderful, wonderful partner.

We've had this arrangement for the last 3 tours,I think.  Before then we used a trucking company.  For several years it worked great. The last year we used them it was a series of problems - incorrect deliveries, late deliveries, damage.

Alex,

Many years ago on the first MOMS tour I was involved with the trucking companies I contacted gave me  liver damage high prices. After I was resuscitated it became clear our only realistic option was to make funds available to the participating sites to rent a truck ( if they needed) and let them go pick up the exhibit at the previous site. After four tours that is still how we do it. We have had only one crunch incident, last year, where a panel  and crate was damaged in transit.  Exactly how I have no idea.  But we’ve had no other complaints!

Subject: trucking contract

Hi everyone,

We’re new to MOMS and in the process of courting a local truck driving school to help move the exhibit from site to site. We’ve never contracted anyone in this capacity. Does anyone with some similar experience have a sample contract they might be able to share?

Thanks,
