The Textile Conservation Lab is seeking a graduate conservation student to assist with ongoing preventive conservation and treatment of Alexander Girard textiles at the Eero Saarinen designed Miller House in Columbus, Indiana. Commissioned in 1953 this modernist house showcases the collaborative work of architect Eero Saarinen, interior designer Alexander Girard and landscape architect Dan Kiley. This summer internship will build upon work commenced in 2012. During the summer of 2013 focus will be on treating and possibly reproducing some of the window coverings. Treatment activities will include tide line reduction and structural repairs. The intern may also assist with the development and implementation of a preventive conservation strategy to mitigate light exposure throughout the house. A stipend may be awarded if application is made through the IMA's Internship/Scholar Program by the January 18, 2013 deadline (the January 4, 2013 deadline published online has been extended for this position only).
