The Textile Conservation Lab is seeking a graduate conservation
student to assist with ongoing preventive conservation and
treatment of Alexander Girard textiles at the Eero Saarinen
designed Miller House in Columbus, Indiana. Commissioned in
1953 this modernist house showcases the collaborative work of
architect Eero Saarinen, interior designer Alexander Girard and
landscape architect Dan Kiley. This summer internship will
build upon work commenced in 2012. During the summer of 2013
focus will be on treating and possibly reproducing some of the
window coverings. Treatment activities will include tide line
reduction and structural repairs. The intern may also assist
with the development and implementation of a preventive
conservation strategy to mitigate light exposure throughout the
house.
A stipend may be awarded if application is made through the
IMA's Internship/Scholar Program by the January 18, 2013
