In dbconfig, you should be able to set up a query group with the fields to
search on inactive entries. It's a different branch of the query groups
hierarchy.

I’m wondering if Amber is partially having the same problem that I’ve been
having – I can’t find the silly inactive linked term to try to do the
second delete. I’ve tried playing with the dbconfig and the queries to
search for the inactive terms, and also changed the term to have DONOTUSE
in the front so it’s easier to spot, but I can’t find where they are
linked. It still shows up as ‘linked to 2 records’, but won’t come up in a
search.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to track them down, you would be my
favorite!

Diane.

Hi Brenda,

That feature should work to protect you against accidental deletes. In the
thesxrefs configuration you can choose to 'archive deletes' or not. If the
type is configured to archive deletes, a single delete keystroke will make
it inactive, but still visible if you right-click over the control on the
data entry screen. Once visible, you can delete a second time if you're
sure it needs to hit the road.

Hi Amber,

I've found that if a Term Attribute is deleted from its context (say
Bibliography), the THESXREFS record still actually exists but is set to
ACTIVE=0. It doesn't appear in queries, but still shows as being in use
from the Thesaurus. When I've found myself in this situation in past, I
manually deleted the inactive rows directly from the THESXREFS table prior.

Don't know if that's the recommended way to handle it, but it worked for us.

Hmm… Ok, now that I am doing this properly, and it works, and I can do the
search I thought I needed to do, I still haven’t resolved my original
problem…

The reason I wanted to search attributes in the Bibliography module is
because I have an errant thesaurus term that I need to delete, but I can’t
delete it because it’s in use in one record. So I’m trying to track down
the record where the term is used and I’m just not finding it.

Here’s the problem. Someone inadvertently added a local term under AAT in
the Thesaurus:

When I try to delete the term, it says that it is in use in one record,
Thesaurus Xrefs (Bibliography): 1 time, cannot delete.

I did a search on Terms(Attributes) = “Art, Modern--Themes,
Motives—Exhibitions.” I do get two records, but they are linked to the
same term under Local Authorities (where it belongs). I can’t track down a
record using this term via the AAT hierarchy. I’ve even tried deleting the
link between the Local Authority version of the term to the two records,
just in case, and that didn’t help (I didn’t actually expect it to).

Is there something I’m missing? I’ve tried updating the database
statistics and that didn’t help – maybe there is some other maintenance I
should be performing?

You have to drop it in the Query Assistant (or other similar subfile), not
the Bibliography Group.

Image attached. That’s the order I’m doing things, and then I get the
“Cannot!” message.

In which context?

bibliography group or something else I’m missing?
