Hi List,
We’re planning on adding some of our extended label copy into TMS. I’m not sure if “extended label copy” is common nomenclature; basically this
would be the curatorial/educational commentary about an object. On the notes tab, there are number of fields that probably can serve this purpose, and maybe some of you are using them. However, we have so many different label types that I’m thinking Text
Entries will be the way to go. That way, each object could have more than one label that we can pull depending on our current needs. If anyone else is doing this, it would be great to hear from you and discuss what kind of standards you have developed.
One thing that is really challenging us is that we often have label copy that covers groups of objects. For example, we might gather a number of
works depicting Campbell’s Soup and then just have one block of text describing Warhol’s Campbell’s works. Or we might pull some of his early drawings and include text about early commercial work. And of course, Warhol worked in multiples so any text that
applies to one portrait of Mao could very well apply to all of the Maos in the collection. Has anyone else dealt with this? I could just copy the same label into every possible object, but I’m wondering if there’s an easier, smarter way.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Best regards,
Amber
