The Santa Barbara Museum of Art, a leading West Coast art museum, presents internationally-recognized collections and exhibitions and a broad array of cultural and educational activities.  This position reports to the Museum's Chief Registrar and maintains and updates Collections Management database (TMS), working closely with Collections Management and Curatorial departments to ensure proper and consistent data entry and institution-wide functionality, including introduction and training of staff on TMS.  Will work on projects including collection inventory, accessioning and deaccessioning, and the storage and movement of artworks.  Receives, examines and catalogues works entering the collection, creates documentation records, and determines proper storage and care of collection, performs inventories and arranges shipment of artworks.  The position will also assist in the formation of policies and procedures for managing the collection and will occasionally act as courier for high value/fragile loans.

BA degree is required, preferably in Art History, Studio Art, or Museum Studies.  Detailed knowledge and of The Museum System (TMS) database is essential.  Knowledge of SQL and Crystal Reports is a plus.  Must have strong ability to multitasking and excellent interpersonal skills.   Requires knowledge of art media and art handling/packing/shipping methods.  Excellent record keeping, computer and clerical skills essential.  High level of accuracy and attention to detail and ability to work independently required.  Minimum of five year's experience in Registration/Collections Management preferred.  Must be able to lift art objects up to 50 pounds.  Background check required.

  *   Schedule: 35 hours per week
