There are a couple of solutions for dealing with HTML text and HTML snippets that can be easily published to your website. In general, it isn’t best practice
to use Microsoft Word as an HTML editor, and this has nothing to do with TMS per se. MS Word’s implementation of HTML includes a fair amount of extraneous encoding that can cause all sorts of problems if you were to try to publish this data directly to your
site. TMS text entries natively permit simple text formatting (bold, underline, italics) in addition to displaying all HTML that may have been created in other applications. However, TMS Text Entries are not a substitute for a full HTML editor, although
that would definitely be a useful future enhancement.
Another option for linking TMS-managed formatted text to your website would be to use HTML Media Records for this purpose. This TMS 2012 feature allows you
to see both the formatted text and the encoding of a document, and allows you to edit the document in any HTML editor you have locally installed. You would use the Semantic Type Name in the Media record to indicate the nature of the HTML document, similar
to how you may be using Text Types to identify different types of text. This feature has already been implemented by a number of TMS clients, including Seattle Art Museum
from which the example below was taken.
If you have questions about implementing this feature, please contact me or eMuseum Product manager
Alex Hoffman.

We’ve had similar problems with our installation of eMuseum. We’ve had to turn off HTML formatting all together, otherwise all the text retains
the formatting from wherever it was copied from. This isn’t a satisfactory solution, as it means we can’t have any formatting in our label text, so it looks quite blocky. The main problem is that in TMS 2010, you can’t see formatting as it sits in the field
and yet the formatting markers appear to be retained.

Subject: HTML text entries
Hello TMSers,
I'm wondering how many of you are using the html text entry on your websites and how you have handled formatting issues. Our web editors want to see them in HTML 5 format and our curators are by and large cutting and
pasting from Word or just using the buttons in the text field,. We're trying to find an easy solution to displaying the html in a format our web team can use and our curators can write. I'd love to hear if any of you have dealt with this issue and what you've
come up with.
Many thanks in advance!
Stephanie
