Jessica,
Most Americans know calibers in inch measurements so 15 millimeters (.59 caliber)
Usually most books and magazines list caliber stated in original stated caliber , say .30 inch for example with metric equivalent listed next to it (7.62mm)
A researcher interested in firearms would probably be searching using the nomenclature caliber rather than a metric standard.
Thanks,
Rick Lathrop

Hi Diane--
We record the caliber in millimeters and work it into the label as a detail dimension which generally follows the “overall” one.
5 7/8 x 1 15/16 x 19 inches, 2.4 lb. (15 x 5 x 48.3 cm, 1110.1g)
Caliber: 15 millimeters
Width (lockplate to counter plate): 1 3/16 inches (3 cm)
Length (barrel without tang): 12 13/16 inches (32.5 cm)
Weight (barrel): 1.8 lb. (802.3g)
These were taken by a conservator during a survey, hence the extensive detail.

Subject: Dimensions type
Good morning all!
Working on some of our backlog, and I have a question for those of you with firearms collections – Do you enter the caliber (if known) of the firearm in the Dimensions field; and how do you work the dimension labels? And do you translate
it into other measurements?
I can see it being useful to know, so might as well enter it if I can have it make sense.
Thanks!
Diane.
