It is with great pleasure that we invite you to consider hosting the newest MoMS exhibition---about what Water means to people.  This Water Project provides a wonderful bridge between the humanities and the natural sciences. A description of the project is attached.  As part of a large-scale Smithsonian emphasis on water and waterways, councils participating on this tour may also be able to take advantage of other programmatic initiatives and resources developed by the Smithsonian.  The MoMS exhibition will begin traveling in May 2016 and continue through 2022.  The fee to host the MoMS exhibition is $9000.  Councils choosing to provide capacity building training for the host organizations will receive up to a $4000 credit.

 

We have already heard from many of you about your sincere interest in this topic. As part of a larger Smithsonian research initiative on Water, we would like to organize the tours in such a way that there is a broad geographic distribution each year. So, please let us know your first and second choice for the year in which you would like to host the Water project.

 

Secondly, in an initiative called “Urban MoMS”, we are also launching a pilot project to use the MoMS exhibition, The Way We Worked, in urban settings.  The idea is to use the MoMS exhibition as a way to inspire public programs and to build community around the topic.  This initiative is centered on community development and public programs. Perhaps the exhibition is up for shorter periods of time in urban settings and we are hoping you will be able to work with organizations  where your council could engage the public in a series of programs about work in America. Please let us know if you want to be part of this pilot project from September 2015 to July 2016, even if you might consider hosting it in 3 or 4 cities for half a year. The fee for a shorter 5 month tour is $4500. It would not involve training workshops or capacity building for host venues, but rather be a tool with which your council can target neighborhoods or urban centers that want to host humanities programs about work .  We want to explore how best to serve an urban center and to determine what resources are needed to realize our mutual goals.  If you are curious about this idea, please contact us so that we can discuss it further.
