Purpose of Position:
The Textile Conservator is responsible for the conservation, care and treatment of the textile, costume, costume accessories, and related ethnographic collections held by the state
of New Mexico in the Museum of New Mexico System. This position is responsible for safeguarding, through the application of best conservation practices, collections, and collaborating with curators and collection staff to carry out these activities. This position
is responsible for making complex decisions on how best to care for artifacts, as well as how they may be handled and accessed by staff, researchers and academic scholars. This position is also responsible for responding to emergencies within the four museums
and eight state monuments of the Museum of New Mexico System, as well as participating in on-going risk management, volunteer coordination, grant writing, and other associated functions.
This position is a Pay Band 60.

CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTION:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
|
Associate’s Degree in Art History or other area of specialization such as Museum Studies, Museology, Conservation Science, Anthropology or History; and two (2) years supervised experience
working with museum artifacts/collections. Depending upon the Museum and the nature of the position, the hiring agency may modify the experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience
in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Working Conditions:
Lifting, sitting, standing, long hours at the computer and/or conservation work station, or analytical equipment, photography or conservation laboratory. will deal with public interactions
and those with hosting institution staff. Work singly or as a team.
