We also use the bibliography module. We don’t enter anything into the text field for bibliographic references (same for exhibition history but that’s another story). We had our books entered into TMS by grad students from a local MLIS program. It is a great intern project.

We, like some others have said, use both the module and the text fields under the object’s record. However, we actually use the “published references” field (object module > documentation tab) to list (in Chicago citation format) the publications that feature or reference the work – this field is displayed in the object record online through eMuseum. We use the “bibliography” field less frequently, for related research sources (sometimes a curator will provide these to us) – this field does not display online.
We use TMS 2012 and I like that it now shows a bibliography tab in the object module. (Or perhaps this feature was here all along and my memory is fading!) It provides a nice way to cross-reference your information. From the object module, I can click a title in the bibliography tab list, then click “edit,” and it takes me into the bib. module and I can then click the “citations” tab to see if any other artworks were referenced in the same publication. Especially nice if I want a list of works featured in a permanent collection catalog, for example.
Our data entry manual is a bit outdated since we upgraded versions, but like Robyn, I type a full citation into the bib. module’s “citation” field in the notes tab, mainly to save me time in copying and pasting it elsewhere (like, in the object module). We have not fully exploited the text entries or media tabs in the bib. module.
Our entries don’t link up to our library’s catalog, but it is helpful to track things on the registration end – if I can’t remember if I received a gratis copy of something, I can look it up and know that the library should have it, even if it’s not on their catalog online yet.

Hi,
We only use the module to enter our bibliographic data. Our library staff actually does it for everyone which is very kind of them! We don't relate their database directly with TMS but if they are entering a book in their collection, they'll enter their call # in the Reference number field.
In addition to fielding all of the data where it is designated to go, we also add the full book citation on the Notes tab in the Citation field to get around the issues with reporting or pulling the citations online. It has worked very well for us.
