The below is taken from the TMS 2016 3^rd Party Compatibility Guide:

 

Microsoft SQL Server

 

SQL Server 2008 (released 2008, server build numbers 10.0.xxxxx)

TMS 2010 R2, R3 and TMS 2012 support SQL Server 2008, and do so natively: the SQL Server Native

Client 10 ODBC driver must be used and the databases should be set to “Compatibility Mode 100.”

NB: Official support for SQL Server 2008 is phased out with TMS 2014, as development will be done on

SQL 2008 R2. However, it is presumed to still work with TMS 2014. It is not supported with TMS 2016.

 

SQL Server 2008 R2 (released April 2010, server build numbers 10.5.xxxxx)

TMS 2010 R2, R3, TMS 2012 and TMS 2014 support SQL Server 2008 R2 natively (SQL Server Native Client

10 must be used for the ODBC driver, and “Compatibility Mode 100” for the compatibility level on the

databases). It is not supported with TMS 2016.

 

SQL Server 2012 (released March 2012, server build numbers 11.0.xxxxx)

TMS 2012 (beginning with Service Pack 1), TMS 2014 and TMS 2016 support SQL 2012. When using SQL

Server 2012, Database Compatibility must be set to 110, and the SQL Server Native Client 11.0 driver

must be used as well.

 

SQL Server 2014 (released April 2014, server build numbers 12.0.xxxx)

SQL Server 2014 is supported for use with TMS 2014, and TMS 2016. It was certified in April, 2015.

Certification was done by using the SQL Server Native Client 11 and Compatibility Level 120 on the TMS

database.

 

Note: TMS is a 32-bit application and all versions of Windows will call the 32-bit editions of the ODBC

drivers when TMS asks for the Data Source Name (usually “Museum”). On 32-bit operating systems, the

correct (32-bit) ODBC Administration Control Panel is located at C:\Windows\System32\ODBCad32.exe,

and on 64-bit operating systems, the correct (32-bit) ODBC Administration Control Panel is here:

C:\Windows\SysWow64\ODBCad32.exe.
