Hello all,
The annual UK and Ireland TMS User Group meeting took place last week at the Leeds Discovery Centre. The meeting took place over two days, with training provided by Jon Thristan on the Monday. Jon gave attendees an extremely useful overview
of TMS configuration, tools, plugins and utilities in addition to showing us Crystal Reports, Alerts and SQL in more detail.
Tuesday’s programme saw Jen Kaines update us all on the current developments at Leeds Museums and Galleries. Alice Duce from Sheffield Industrial Museum showed us how the museum have made extensive use of the Accession Lots tool, in addition
to the Object Importer. It was also great to see how the Henry Moore Institute’s re-development project has progressed, with Martin Davis showing us photos of the new (and completed!) buildings and how eMuseum will be utilised for their new website. Rupert
Shepherd also joined us from the National Gallery, London and presented on the exciting new Collections Information project which intends to capture more information in TMS and enhance the NG’s superb collection.
The afternoon’s session gave Sascha Curzon an opportunity to reveal new features in TMS 2016 (and 2016 r2) and gave us a first look at Media Studio and eMuseum 5, along with other updates and news. Dieter Van Hassel joined us from The Royal
Museum for Central Africa, Belgium and explained to us his work on The International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF). I then showed the group how Tate have been investigating use of the Events Module to manage job requests and workflow as part of a
wider Collections Automation project. The meeting concluded with the usual Ask/Tell GS session.
The meeting was a great chance to catch up with our colleagues at various TMS institutions across the UK, Ireland (and Europe!) and see what exciting projects and developments are underway. Thanks to Jon and Sascha for organising yet another
helpful and engaging TMS UK and Ireland User Group meeting.
Best Wishes
Madeline
