Janette,

Our customizations were worked through with the eMuseum team at Gallery Systems. Most of the record permissions are currently based on the Classification field. I’m happy to discuss as you move further along in the project.

All the best, Rachel

Thanks for your reply, Rachel. This is exciting to hear as it’s exactly what I’m hoping to accomplish! I’m curious to learn how you incorporated the additional fields for “staff” users to view but that may be premature as we don’t have an IT person on staff (we rely on tech support from our municipality) and our efforts are currently focused on the upgrade. Once we get 5.0 running, may I contact you for more details if needed?

Best,

Janette

Janette,

At the Williams College Museum of Art, we are still on 4.0, but plan to upgrade to 5 soon. We are currently utilizing two user profiles in our present custom configuration; (1) Public and (2) Staff.  Any user assigned ‘staff’ rights can see fields and records that the public does not have access (ie: locations; loan objects; deaccessioned objects, etc.).  As an Admin user, I assign staff rights to users, individually. This has worked quite well, especially when I need to give access to student interns and staff who typically only need to search our records but do not need data entry level access. It also saves us on the number of seat licenses.

Best, Rachel

Hi all,

We’re in the process of upgrading to eMuseum5 and I’m wondering if any of you are using it for intranet use. Specifically, I’m interested in allowing our non-registration staff (i.e. read-only users) access to more data fields than the basic ones that are published for external users. I haven’t had any responses to my query on the GS Community page so thought I’d try again via your inboxes!

Thanks,

Janette
