Like the YCBA, we also use role qualifiers in the Prefix field. And we also rely on a cheat sheet listing preferred terms for the qualifiers for each role (attached), which has always been challenging to enforce. We've always wanted a drop-down for these qualifiers! It does get clunky when you search for an artist and you get results, but they are prints of the paintings by a given artist, so it is sort of misleading. Sarah L. Roles, such as artist, printmaker, publisher,... are in the role drop down. Attribution qualifiers are not in that role drop down. For me TMS is missing a field here to manage attribution qualifiers, so I keep them handy in multiple places for the cataloguers mostly as a cheat sheet (in the thesaurus manager, function key, printed list, cataloguing manual in our intranet,...). That means that the cataloguers have to know them to use them and that takes some training. Managing them separately is critical for us because when we export our data out of TMS, to LIDO XML and CIDOC-CRM RDF for linked open data, they are mapped separately to the LIDO schema and the CIDOC-CRM model. In general, being as granular as possible with your data is a good rule of thumb to make it shareable. Getty's CDWA (which works hand in hand with LIDO byw) has great definitions for these 2 elements (CDWA calls attribution qualifiers creator qualifiers) http://www.getty.edu/research/publications/electronic_publications/cdwa/14creation.html I hope that helps. Do you use a separate constituent role for After? Do you enter After in the Prefix field of the Object X-Ref field? Or, some other approach?
