I just tried this in the Object History field with the following:
“This is a test
of the spell-cheqquer”
Then I followed your steps, editing “cheqquer” to “checker” in the upper pane, clicking on Change and “cheqquer” was changed to “checker”.

Subject: TMS 2016 bug in spell checker?
Dear colleagues
Has anyone noticed a bug in the spell checker, as follows:
1.
In a Text Entries field, enter text which contains line or page breaks
2.
Open the spell checker and, rather than choose an offered alternative word, edit the text in the upper pane and press the Change button
3.
The characters you thought you edited have not been changed, but others have / insertions end up in the wrong place?
I’ve come across this in our trial version of TMS 2016 R2, and am curious as to whether it’s a known issue in this or previous releases, or not.
Thanks!
Rupert
