Hi Judith,

Our experience of working with Google Arts & Culture has been much like Bethany's, though our site has been live for several years. I just checked in with our Lead Developer about how much referral traffic we get back to our website from our GAC records and it's virtually nil (917 referrals in four years). We do not normally bother to even track the analytics because the impact of having our works on the site is so limited with regard to our own website. And we have had essentially no feedback from folks accessing our GAC records directly (i.e. not as referrals back to our website), so we have no idea of any impact the records have had with the GAC context. We have not engaged in any partnerships with other contributors to date.

My colleague suggested that if you are hoping to drive traffic to your site from GAC, you would be better off paying for ads on Google. The GAC content seems currently to be more about 'being seen to participate' than anything else. Perhaps that will change over time.

If you would like to talk more about our specific experience, I'd be happy to chat offline.

Frances

Hi, Judith,

We are participating, but still waiting on our site to go live. I think it will be a benefit to us because it's an additional platform for sharing our collections, along with the possibility of collaborating with other institutions on exhibitions in the platform. They also took ultra-high resolution photographs of some of our 2D objects and are creating a Street View virtual tour. This is all at no cost to us, so made it very worth it, despite the entire process taking a very long time (we were first in contact with them 18 months ago; the onboarding process is very, very slow). We need to expand our collection's reach, and this is a relatively easy (and cheap) way to do it. I've been frustrated by their staff turnover and months between communications, but in the end, I think it won't have been a lot of effort for a wider reach.

I'm happy to answer any other questions about our participation, too.

Best,
Bethany

Dear All

Is there any institution which takes part in the google art project? Is there any benefit story you could share?
We are actually updating our emuseum to emuseum5. And with emuseum5 comes the API which should make life easier to share collection objects.

I am looking forward to any response.
Best regards from zurich
