David,

Yes, eMuseum supports multiple approaches to constituent searchability, from simple searches on name and name variants to elaborate queries linking dates, roles, attributes, and geography.  Here are a few examples:

The most basic approach to constituent searching with eMuseum 5.1, using the standard default template: http://emuseum5.gallerysystems.com/people

A more extensive implementation of constituent searching at the Reading Public Museum: http://collection.readingpublicmuseum.org/advancedsearch/objects

Example of a timeline and geolocation at the Danish Arts Foundation: http://vores.kunst.dk/en/start

Remember, though, that the success of these approaches depends on the completeness and accuracy of your authority tagging, whether it is links to a custom thesaurus or to a term and name authority such as AAT and ULAN.

If you want to contact me directly I can give you other examples and perhaps show you how eMuseum can provide the kind of access you’re looking for.

Best,

Danielle Uchitelle

Subject: Constituents details in eMuseum

Sorry to as an eamuseum question in the TMS list, but I assume many of you also use eMuseum.

How configurable & searchable are constituents in eMuseum. I see various institutions including various fields, but so far I don't find them searchable. Can it be configured to search for, say, female painters in Spain in the 1700s? The gender and discipline would come from a custom thesaurus, and the location and dates from addresses. I do something like this with Photographers' Identities Catalog (a custom built app http://pic.nypl.org/map/?address.AddressTypeID=*&address.CountryID=20&bbox=*&Nationality=*&gender.TermID=2027998&process.TermID=*&role.TermID=*&format.TermID=*&biography.TermID=2028094&collection.TermID=*&DisplayName=*&Date=%5B1687%20TO%201899%5D&mode=2)

Anybody doing adventurous stuff with names in eMuseum? I haven't found anything more than a free-text search of the Display Name field.
