Chrisy is correct to recommend that you try the Lot Accessioning feature on a few test records before using it in production. In order to reduce unintended updates, we introduced some more explicit confirmation messages beginning in TMS 2016 R2:

Caroline,

The Accession Lot tool is a feature within TMS, not a plugin. It can be useful. I use it to update Object Status in batches, HOWEVER, you can easily lose data using this tool. If you haven't used it before, I strongly recommend trying it out on test records first, not on your real data. There is documentation about how to use it in TMS Help file, but the documentation is not clear about several steps.

There is a set of fields that can be updated using this tool and a checklist where you can select to update one or more of these fields. The tool automatically selects all the fields for update. DESELECT all the checkboxes before running this tool. If a field is checked and that field was left blank because you didn’t want changes made, THIS FEATURE WILL DELETE YOUR DATA.

I'm not sure if you will get the results you want to batch update object numbers through Accession Lot, but wanted you to be aware of this issue in case you test it out.

Best,

Chrisy

Thank you all for your responses- I'm glad I waited before using SQL. Is the Accession Lot tool a plugin? I created a new accession lot with the objects I wanted changed but I'm not sure how to edit them beyond this.
