GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Under the supervision of Digital Asset Management (DAM) staff, the Cataloguing Assistant will support the cataloguing activities of the DAM group by undertaking metadata creation, validation and enhancement projects for digital collections in the Digital Asset Management System (DAMS), NetX. Related tasks include asset organization within the database. The Cataloguing Assistant will work with a variety of assets, including historical and contemporary images of the Museum buildings, exhibitions, artwork, events and staff as well as digital a/v content related to artwork, exhibition and permanent gallery audio guide tours. The Assistant will adhere to internal cataloguing guidelines for all projects. The Assistant will also work to ensure that a backlog of asset records related to works in the collection are successfully linked to TMS and available for curatorial access and publication to the website. Other projects may be assigned.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
*         Add new and enhance existing metadata for select historical and contemporary image collections documenting the Museum's buildings, events and staff
*         Add new and enhance existing metadata for select a/v content, primarily audio guide tours
*         Organize assets in the DAMS according to internal taxonomy
*         Undertake basic research to accomplish cataloguing tasks using related assets and documentation
*         Link asset records in the DAMS related to Met and loan objects to their TMS object records; deploy assets to TMS
*         Copy catalogue information from documentation recorded on paper to associated digital images
*         Other cataloguing projects as assigned
*         Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills:
*         BA in Art History or equivalent with Art History background or demonstrated interest. MLIS, or working towards an MLIS, strongly preferred
*         Minimum 1 year experience working with a digital asset management system (NetX preferred) or content management system
*         Experience in a Visual Resources Collection, Archive, Library or Museum
*         Experience with searching databases
*         Demonstrated skill with Microsoft Office applications
*         Familiarity with metadata schema and standards
*         Knowledge of digital file formats

Knowledge and Education:
*         Excellent written and oral communication skills
*         Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, to work independently, and to work in a collaborative team environment.
*         Good time management skills
*         Excellent organizational and research skills
