Ana, check with the handheld barcode scanner's manufacturer. The Morgan Library and Museum uses handheld USB barcode scanners throughout the institution with our library system. These can be configured to add the carriage return after processing a barcode. You might think that that isn't possible - but ingeniously the manufacturer provides a thick book of barcodes that are used to change the configuration settings on the device.

Subject: Notepad files - Barcode Manager - Scanners

Hello everyone,

We are implementing a barcode project in our museum and we will be using the Barcode Manager plugin to track our movement transactions. We are currently using TMS 2017. At the moment, we have a regular handheld barcode scanner with a USB cord, which we have been testing. I noticed that this scanner does not input a time-stamp in the notepad file when it reads a barcode. But more important, I have noticed that when we create such notepad file and scan the barcodes, we have to press “Enter” for each barcode we scan in order to have one barcode per line in the notepad document. Since there’s nothing on the Barcode Manager User’s guide about this, I was wondering if anyone experienced the same problem? Is there a way around this? Will getting a proper scanner, which we are considering because of the time-stamp option, solve this?

And will any of you be able to provide feedback on using a small handheld mobile computer (like the Zebra TC20, for instance) instead of a simple barcode scanner?

Thank you,
Ana
