Christine, this is what I started doing, so I’m happy I’m not alone with this idea. It does answer my needs the best, as I need all objects as full records and not virtual ones (thanks Stephanie).
I suggested in GS’s Ideas that they would develop a way to do this properly, without having to enter a note. Notes are sometimes overlooked and it’s always preferable that the system tells you the full and accurate story of an object.

Hi Hamutal,

We are running TMS2016 R2, but ever since we began using TMS (back at the 9.20 version), we’ve entered values for tea sets and the like by inputting the overall value into the first record, noting that this is for the entire tea set. The subsequent records (for the creamer, sugar, waste bowl etc., have the value 0.00, with the note to refer to the first record for the overall value. (Screen dumps below). We have begun using components for objects such as tea sets, thus having only one record. However, we still use this model for times when components would not be used or until we undertake retroactive data cleanup.

Subject: One value, several objects

Hello fellow TMSers

I'm trying to figure out methods of entering one insurance value to several objects together. Until GS solves this technically (if ever), I would love to hear how do you handle this.
Naturally, it wouldn’t be advisable to enter the same total amount to all objects, as it would result in a wrong total when exporting a value's report.
Dividing the amount to equal parts would not necessarily suit insurance policies and would not tell a true value.

We use TMS 2018 and the valuation & insurance context in the object's module.

I'd be more than grateful for any thoughts!

Hamutal
