We recently re-classified our 'watercolors' to have their own classification of 'watercolors' because there was too much confusion and debate surrounding the 'well is more of a drawing, or more of a watercolor?'. We assign it on our end and if the curator feels strongly that it should go the other way to drawing, then we will reclassify is as such. Is a watercolor classified as a drawing or a painting? In the AAT the term watercolor is called paint. However, I know there is a long history of watercolors being considered drawings or preliminary sketches. Additionally, I know that with multiple classifications in TMS, they could be listed as both, but the curators think that would be confusing. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!
