All,
It is fairly easy to publish YouTube and Vimeo videos using eMuseum, and it can be managed in a few different ways. A number of museums are already doing this.
YouTube and Vimeo provide both the URL to videos on their service as well as the entire embed code that can be used to embed that video into a website such as eMuseum.
Example URL:
https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fembed%2Fyour-video-url-hash&data=02%7C01%7CTMSUSERS%40SI-LISTSERV.SI.EDU%7C8e86357b34bf4fdae09008d82376676e%7C989b5e2a14e44efe93b78cdd5fc5d11c%7C0%7C0%7C637298338731066547&sdata=ohNrFgf5Mkwf%2BWgSeLXnWauqMDnf8nkDnw9g8BmvTZs%3D&reserved=0
Example Embed code:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fembed%2Fyour-video-url-hash&amp;data=02%7C01%7CTMSUSERS%40SI-LISTSERV.SI.EDU%7C8e86357b34bf4fdae09008d82376676e%7C989b5e2a14e44efe93b78cdd5fc5d11c%7C0%7C0%7C637298338731066547&amp;sdata=ohNrFgf5Mkwf%2BWgSeLXnWauqMDnf8nkDnw9g8BmvTZs%3D&amp;reserved=0" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
To publish these videos in eMuseum, you can reference the URL or the entire embed code in TMS. We recommend that you only catalogue the URL, and allow eMuseum to wrap the URL in embed code. This allows you to use the URL for other purposes, and it makes it easier to change the embed code (such as the height, width, autoplay, etc.) from one place in eMuseum instead of many entries in TMS.
One method of cataloging object-related YouTube video URLs is through the use of Alternate Numbers in the Object record, though there are other ways. The entry should be identified with a description (if using Alternate Number) such as "YouTube Embed Code" or "YouTube URL" to label the video and make it identifiable by eMuseum.
You can also choose to catalogue YouTube and Vimeo content as a Media record in TMS, related directly to the module record (Object, Constituent, Exhibition, Event, etc.) that the video relates to. When using Media records, we recommend using a separate record with a designated media type to make the YouTube video clearly identifiable.
Please email me if you're interested, and I can show you some eMuseum websites that publish YouTube video in this way.

Danielle

Hi all,

Our curatorial/marketing team has created a number of short curatorial videos about specific works in the collection that have been posted on Youtube and other social media platforms. Our marketing staff would like to see if we can link these videos to their individual emuseum records. Would you suggest inserting the link into a text-entry in the emuseum record or uploading the videos to TMS and linking them through the media records? Any instructions on how to do either would also be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Amanda
