External Email - Exercise Caution I’ve used that tool also, many times, with great results. I would go beyond saying the interface isn’t user friendly – this sort of thing is exactly why Mac users laugh manically at stuff Windows users put up with. I’ve been a computer nerd for 45 years now, one of my first jobs was using a teletype machine with punched paper tape, and the BRU screen still makes me cringe! But the price is right and it really does do a fine job once you learn how to use it. -Steve -- Steve Rothman, Systems Admin Peabody Museum From: Museum Users <[log in to unmask]> on behalf of David Hoffman <[log in to unmask]> Reply-To: Museum Users <[log in to unmask]> Date: Friday, February 19, 2021 at 12:21 PM To: Museum Users <[log in to unmask]> Subject: Re: Bulk renaming image digital files External Email - Exercise Caution Hi Amanda, I’ve used a tool called Bulk Rename Utility (bulkrenameutility.co.uk) for many years. The interface isn’t very user-friendly, but it can rename folders/files in many ways and has regex functionality. [cid:image001.jpg@01D706C9.66548FD0] Let me know if you need any help with this. External Email - Exercise Caution Hi Amanda, There are two parts to this 1. Renaming the files * There is software out there that you can use to rename files. * Alternatively, use a programming language like python. 1. Updating the MediaFiles table in TMS. * This can be tricky because you need to avoid replacing the extension period separator (ie. '.jpg') * This is done using SQL. I can help you with this if needed. This would mean renaming the thousands of files on our servers and files in TMS. Has anyone performed a similar update or have any other recommendations?
