Metadata Specialist
Full-time Contract

The Metadata Specialist has an affinity for information and, without effort, sees the connection between bits of information related to cataloging artifacts. Have you had experience being responsible for providing data management and metadata support for a collections information system(s)? Do your skills include data entry in any collection information management systems (CMS, DAMs), verifying and processing new information for upload to databases, as well as assisting in the development, implementation and documenting of the museum's data and metadata standards; and assisting in developing user training materials and system reports. RESPONSIBILITIES

  *   Provide data management and metadata support through the standardization of terminology and updating of system records in the museum's collection information systems
  *   Catalogue and update collections records and metadata following the museum's authorities and data management standards
  *   Assist in the development and updating of procedural documentation training materials and system reports related to the museum's information systems following the museum's data management practices
  *   Review and import new data and media loaders to the database and perform content and quality checks on those records and assets as required
  *   Test new metadata processes, workflows, and procedures, providing related support and user training for the museum's information systems as required
  *   Provide weekly progress reports, research, and other requested project reports upon request.
  *   Perform other Digitization project-related duties as required
To sum up, the main intent of this grant-funded position is to provide assistance around a range of TMS administrative activities that will include general metadata cleanup as well as technical metadata tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS

  *   A bachelor's degree with a focus on heritage collections, information, and media management, or an acceptable equivalent in education and experience
  *   Minimum of 4 years experience working with relational databases, collections management systems and DAMS; The Museum System (TMS) and Piction preferred
  *   A broad understanding of both cultural artifacts and natural history specimens
  *   Advanced data manipulation and organization skills using a variety of software and tools
  *   Experience writing and developing Crystal Reports and/or SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS); familiarity with SQL
  *   Sound understanding of a wide variety of media formats
  *   Knowledge of current library, archival and museum metadata standards
  *   Intermediate MS office skills as well as data manipulation and transformation skills using a wide variety of software and tools
  *   Direct hands-on experience with relational databases, CMSs, and DAMs
